Contrasting flavors, on the other hand, is a bold move that will showcase your foodie clout. For example, pairing a savory salad with a wheat or pale ale is an excellent choice, as the lighter flavor of these beers will help to balance out the spiciness of the salad.

Cut pairings are a great way to refresh your palate and can be found in a variety of ways, from spicy foods and roasted vegetables to smoked meats and even ice cream. These pairs can be accentuated by using ingredients that are also found in the beer, such as coriander and orange peel in a Belgian witbier or a funky aroma in a Gueuze.
